Symantec Endpoint Protection and Symantec Multi-Tier Protection

Many of you know that Symantec has put out new products to replace Symantec Corporate Edition and Symantec Enterprise Edition antivirus. The new products are Symantec Endpoint Protection and Symantec Multi-Tier Protection. Different name – still a great product. That being said, there are a couple of issues we are working around. You may be wondering…

Why wasn’t my Symantec Endpoint Protection ( v. 11 ) /Symantec Multi-Tier Protection - ( v. 11 ) installed after renewing my Symantec maintenance/license agreement?

The new versions of antivirus have some performance issues that Symantec is in the process of resolving. Once these issues were recognized, StarTech made the decision that it would be in our customer’s best interest to delay further upgrades/installs of Symantec Endpoint Protection and Symantec Multi-Tier Protection until the revisions have been released and fully tested by StarTech. Our engineers still registered your maintenance renewals and they remain valid even when staying at the current version. If you purchased the product for the first time, it was installed as the previous version.<

Performance Issues:

On servers, specifically Windows Small Business Servers, Symantec Endpoint Protection / Symantec Multi-Tier Protection can cause high CPU utilization causing the server to perform poorly and run slow.

Computers require more memory than Symantec’s minimum requirements for the computer to be usable for daily work routines.

The new version offers many new security features. When not configured correctly, these can cause problems with internal communication between the workstations and servers. Prior to deploying these new features, StarTech will test them to determine the best configuration for performance and security.

The new Symantec Endpoint Protection and Symantec Multi-Tier Protection product s provide excellent security against viruses, spyware\malware, intrusions, etc. Once StarTech has fully tested these products, we are confident they will provide better security and the same reliability of previous Symantec Antivirus products.
